Grand Rogue Living History Encampment
Participant Rules
I. Registration
A. There will be no registration or set up prior to 4:00 pm. on Friday.
B. Each individual or head of an immediate family unit must submit a completed
application form prior to the registration deadline. The form must be signed certifying
that they and their party accept and will abide by all encampment and campground
rules. Anyone approved for late registration must complete the form at check-in and
before setting up camp.
C. All participants must check in and receive their participant packets before setting up
camp.
D. Vehicle passes for all participant vehicles must be completely filled out and properly
placed in the vehicle at check-in.
II. Period Dress
A. All participants (including all family members) must remain in period dress from 9:00
a.m until after closing colors each day.
B. Absolutely no smoking of non-period tobacco products in the historic areas.
III. Authentic Camps
A. All tents and other shelters must be appropriate for the time period portrayed.
B. Everything in public view must be authentic to your historic period.
C. If you wish to have your camp roped off, please bring your own materials.
D. Each camp is responsible for its own security.
E. The committee retains the right to have any out of period items removed.
F. The use of straw is strongly discouraged. If you must bring your own, notify us at
registration and you will be advised of the use restrictions and disposal requirements.
G. No cell phone use in the historic areas except for emergencies.
IV. Fires
A. All fire pits are to be dug out and the sod set aside.
B. Fires must not be left unattended at any time.
C. At least one full fire bucket must be placed by each fire.
D. When you break camp, clean out your fire pit. Safely dispose of the residue, and
replace the sod as neatly as possible.
V. Vehicles and Parking
A. Vehicle passes for all participant vehicles must be completely filled out and properly
placed in the vehicle.
B. Please remove your vehicle as quickly as possible after you finish setting up on Friday
evening.
C. All vehicles must be parked in designated participant parking areas.
D. Vehicles improperly parked or not properly registered are subject to removal at the
owner’s expense.
E. If absolutely necessary, vehicles may be brought into camp for loading or unloading
no earlier than 6:30 a.m. Saturday. They absolutely must be out of camp by 8:30 a.m.
F. NO unauthorized modern vehicles in camp Saturday evening.
G. NO vehicles in camp until after the closing ceremonies on Sunday afternoon.
H. If you must leave Saturday evening, or for emergencies, see the Provost Officer.

VI. General Rules
A. No live firing permitted.
B. All firearms must be unloaded except when engaged in battle reenactments or pre-
approved and organized musketry demonstrations.
C. All edged weapons must be kept covered by a strong protective sheath.
D. Any knife or hawk throwing must be pre-approved, in a designated area, and properly
supervised.
E. All fireworks and sparklers are prohibited.
F. Animals must never be left unattended. They must be kept on a six foot (maximum)
leash and cleaned up after.
G. Historical authenticity notwithstanding, behavior and period dress should conform to
a family oriented atmosphere.
VII. Children
A. Children are subject to the same rules of behavior and dress as adult participants.
B. Children must be supervised at all times by an adult participant. Please be aware that
the area includes two rivers and two ponds. We do not want any accidents!
C. Children are not allowed to play near the water buffalo.
VIII. Tacticals and Demonstrations
A. All tacticals or scenarios must be approved by the Event Safety Officer.
B. Muzzles must be elevated above the heads of opposing forces during tacticals.
C. No closing closer than 20 feet during active combat.
D. Absolutely no hand to hand combat unless approved by the safety officer and rehearsed.
E. You must have a representative at officers call to participate in tacticals or
scenarios.
F. No wadding allowed in firearms.
G. All participants must police the grounds after each tactical or demonstration. Unit
commanders are responsible for seeing that this is done.
IX. Traders and Craftsmen
A. Preregistered traders and craftsmen may sell authentic period items.
1. There is a $25.00 sutler fee.
2. Merchandise must be displayed on blankets, hides, furs, or modern tables
completely covered to the ground with period material.
B. Traders, craftsmen and blanket traders will be inspected and improper or unauthentic
items must be removed.
C. There is no charge for blanket traders who also take an active part in encampment
programs.
X. Clean Up
A. All participants are expected to keep their campsites clean, and to leave them clean
upon departure. Remember that we are using private property. Please treat it as you would
your own.
B. Campsites are to be throughly policed including cigarette butts, plastic ties or other
non-biodegradable items.
C. Please return all unused firewood to woodpile.
